What a mouthful that title is…

Welcome back! This month was long and warm, with no hint of frost, making for an atypically long and colourful fall season. Some rain, fog, and a new weird location rounded things out nicely.

I love re-wilding areas, they are so chaotic and it’s a fun challenge to tease some structure out of them:

A little fog makes things more dreamy:

I spent a gloomy day driving through farm country. The post harvest season can impose clean lines on the ground. A panorama seemed most suitable to show this off:

After the farms it was time to head for the beach, where the line of sand and line of clouds seemed to reflect each other:

Fall colours were also on display. The sky could have used a little variation, but you work with what you get:

Back on the beach, I thought to try my hand at a long exposure, something I don’t do often. I have a 6 stop filter, which is usually enough to smooth out any wind on the water, but that day I probably needed something darker. However, I still like the result:

On a bright morning I decided to take a walk in Little Mountain Park, an off-leash dog park in north west Winnipeg. It’s a beautiful park, but somehow I botched my attempts at catching the colour in a meaningful way. This tree was on full glorious display, but the park is surrounded by light industry, which I kept trying to obscure. However, I finally decided to embrace it, since it seemed like the tree itself knows where its friends are:

After this I randomly went for a drive, and discovered a weird stonehenge-y place a few miles away:

On the third image I was going for the parallel between the feathers and the leaves. The whole place is a little playground for sure, I need to pay it another visit.

Another bright morning I was walking in Assiniboine Park and came across this scene:

It was one of those “shoot from the hip” moments of instant decision, which I’m admittedly pretty bad at. My head usually goes into a series of questions, and if there’s a single “no”, I miss the moment. But in this case, all the answers were “yes”: the right lens was on the camera; shutter and aperture were optimal; and there weren’t enough people around to be self-conscious. Even in the moment I was pretty sure I would want it in black and white, but I have to admit I like the colour version too:

I’ll end this month with a couple of shots from wandering the back lanes and discarded train tracks near my home:

Thanks for reading! The weather has turned much cooler, so I’m looking forward to frost and the annual hike/camp with my friends.

Stay warm, and cheers!
